HAPPENINGS

NOTE: May was a busy month personally in terms of weather-related planting given wind and rains in the Northeast and political slants that affected my more vulnerable loved ones - So a lot of happenings in May didn't happen on this site and construction and catch-up is taking place. Still, there is a lot of good reporting and analyses happening through outlets such as Substack.

In any case, a lot was happening in May. The tension between a government gone wild, corporate gambits, the rule of law, death and destruction, and movements.

War and Peace - The month of May began with even more hell to Palestinians in Gaza. Food supplies were cut off, then privatized with meager supplies in what could only be called a trojan horse ploy. Trump is moving ahead with removing at least one million Gaza residents to Libya.

Law -The rule of law continues to crumble in the United States and internationally as Trump's sanctions against the Hague's ICC that reveal the extent of loss to the world, it's need for change, and the power exercised by Trump in terms of dismantling International Law which exists with the consent of countries.

...The House passed the "Big Beautiful Bill by one vote on May 22. People will pay a price with the heavy Medicaid and Medicare cuts and the rich will do well. Now, hope for my disabled son and everyone else resides with the Senate. Also, as reported by Robert Reich, always read the fine print. An entry in the Big Beautiful Bill, crawled out from under a rock killing the authority of the courts. If it passes justice is toast and Trump and whoever else gets annointed within the next ten years becomes the rule of law.

Technology - Yes, I use AI at times for information gathering, yet a keen awareness of costs show the mixed bag AI brings and the moral complexities. MIT Technology uncovers some of that with its recent report on data center development in Nevada, a dry western state where its capacity to balance out costs is highly questionable.
